Part of: Connection

A trigger is the cue that sets a Template off, usually because it resembles the Condition where the pattern was first learned.

A trigger is the cue that sets a Template off. It is the first link in the chain of an Emotional Template.

In everyday words, it's what sets you off. Trigger is also the model name, used for the link that answers the question "what set it off?"

Triggers land hard because adaptations spread. A strategy learned in one situation starts to fire in situations that only resemble it. The cue in front of you is small; what it reminds your body of may not be.

A tiny example. You see that your message was read an hour ago and there's still no reply. Your stomach drops before you have thought anything at all. That cue touches the need for Connection, and it's a close cousin of someone going quiet.

When the reaction is bigger than the moment, that is an Intensity Mismatch, a sign worth looking at.
