An Emotional Template is your autopilot: the full chain that fires together when an old adaptation is set off.

Emotional Template is the model name. "Your autopilot" is the everyday phrase. The chain has six links: a trigger, a learned if–then rule, a feeling (on the surface and underneath), a body response, a strategy, and an outcome.

A tiny example. A friend cancels dinner by text an hour before. The rule "If I'm needed, I won't be left" wakes up. You feel irritation on top and fear underneath, your chest tightens, and you offer to cook for them at their place instead. That is the Connection × Pursue Template.

The outcome usually seems to prove the rule, which is why insight alone rarely changes a Template.

Templates describe patterns, not people. Everyone runs several. The names are not settled yet, so we refer to each by its rule or its place on the Template Grid.
